Caprice

A work for wind quintet written around 1987.  This recording, from 2017, is the first time I ever heard the piece performed.  This is from a concert given by clarinettist Jana Starling at the Don Writght Faculty of Music, University of Western Ontario.

Aria (from Partita for Solo Cello)

This is the third movement of my "Partita for Solo Cello".  I composed the Partita as a challenge to myself, first, to see if I could crate a piece along the lines of Bach's Cello Suites, and second, to try and expand my understanding of the instrument. Performed here by cellist Tom Wiebe.

Les Cloches (from Tableaux Éternels)

The sixth song from my cycle "Tableaux Éternels".  Performed here by soprano Leslie Fagan and included on her CD "Threads of Winter".

Seasons (from Epitaphs)

The second song from my cycle "Epitaphs" for baritone and piano.  Performed here by Chad Louwerse.

Poor Woman (from Epitaphs)

This is the third song from "Epitaphs".  Performed by Chad Louwerse. The text demanded something a "little different" than the preceding songs. What it actually needed was the best George Gershwin imitation I could write.

Sanctus

A piece for SATB divisi that I had no intention of writing! This work, more or less, "snuck out", right after I'd finished a choral commission in a completely different style. I'm glad I did it! Performed here by Pro Coro Canada under the direction of Michael Zaugg.

I May Not Go

Written for the album "The World Awaits: Songs for a Winter's Night". Performed here by Project Sing!

Quartet for Clarinet & String Trio - Second Movement

The second movement of a quartet for clarinet, violin, viola and cello commissioned by Margaret Martin Gardiner. Performed here by a student group from the University of Western Ontario.

Quartet for Clarinet & String Trio - Third Movement

The third movement of a quartet for clarinet, violin, viola and cello commissioned by Margaret Martin Gardiner. Performed here by a student group from the University of Western Ontario.

  • Traverse Bay This was written for Les Choristes, a women's choir. The text provided a great maritime mood which I tried to capture in the piece.
